Do I need to know how to cook to join a Simply Original class?

Not at all. We are here to help you develop your skills and confidence in the kitchen.  We are happy to teach people of all skill ranges, from absolute beginners who need help to boil water to those who are already quite accomplished in the kitchen.  In fact helping those who are less experienced to learn the basics and develop their own sense of style with cooking is the most rewarding thing for us.

What do I need to bring?
Just yourself, and wear comfortable shoes.  We will provide everything else that you need for a fantastic few hours with us.

How many people will be in the class?
We aim for very hands on tuition – with classes numbering mainly 4 and no more than 6 people at a time.

Can we book as a group?
Absolutely – we love having groups of friends join us for a class.  It’s a novel way to spend a girls night in – with us, or even a boys night out.  Yes we have blokes cooking classes as well!

Where are Simply Original cooking classes held?
Mostly from our custom built kitchen in Sydney's Hills District, however we can also tailor a class to your own environment and we do run classes from special venues from time to time as well.

What is the format of the class?
Following your welcome and run through of the day, one of our cooks will give you a step by step demonstration of the dishes that you will be cooking in your class.  You will have received a copy of the recipes prior to this so as you can follow the demonstration and write any notes you wish to before it’s your turn to cook.  You class leader will be on hand to offer tips and advice, as well as answer any questions you may have whilst you are cooking your dishes.  Once you’ve completed your cooking, we all sit down together to enjoy the meal we’ve prepared.  Beverages will usually be provided.

Will I get to taste the food we cook?
Yes once your class leader has taken you through the demonstration, it’s your turn to cook and following this we all sit down together to enjoy the meal we’ve prepared.

What if I’m a vegetarian?
Simply Original runs vegetarian classes for those non meat eaters out there.  We also run Seafood classes for those vegetarians that eat fish and shellfish.

Can I bring my kids to the class?
Unless specifically listed as a kids cooking class, our classes are adults only affairs.  We need mums and dads to be focussed on the demonstrations and on cooking when it’s their turn to cook, so we ask that you do not bring children.

Do you run classes for kids?
Simply Original does run classes for kids, with additional classes and special school holiday schedules during holiday time.  In addition we also run a class for mums who want to learn how to make nutritious food for their babies – no more of that store-bought, processed stuff!

How long do the classes run for?
Typically each class is three hours, a little longer if you linger over your meal at the end.  This includes clean up time.

Can you deliver a custom made class at a my choice of venue?
Simply Original can certainly tailor a class to your individual specifications.  We will work with you to organise just the right combination for your occasion, subject to your venue having the required equipment and set up.

What if I have an allergy?
Simply Original will always disclose, and clearly show in recipes, all ingredients that we use.  For example, peanuts in some Asian dishes.  You do, however, attend classes at your own risk and need to ensure you are not eating or preparing any foods to which you are allergic.

How do I book for a Simply Original cooking class?
You can book online via our website (www.simplyoriginal.com.au) or over the phone with us.

What kind of classes do you run?
Our class catalogue is extensive, and changes seasonally.  There are a few courses that we run year round.  Please see our Cooking School Schedule for a full timetable.

Can I pay for my class on the day?
We request payment be made at least 7 days in advance of your class.  This allows us enough time for food ordering and preparation before the class is due to run.  We unfortunately cannot refund money for non attendance due to food being ordered and prepared for the exact number of attendees in each class.

If you have any additional questions please contact Natalie on 0421 655 543 or email us with your queries via the Contact Us page on our website.
